Online prison database and resource, www.Prisonpath.com, which celebrated its one-year launch last month, releases “How To Survive Prison: 25 Basic Rules” today. Prisonpath.com has grown steadily as the go-to resource for the families of inmates and first time nonviolent offenders’. It provides crucial information about county, state, and federal prisons and jails throughout the United States.

How To Survive Prison: 25 Basic Rules is based on site-creator B.D. Schwartz’s personal experience in the medium security prison system in Maryland as a 62 year old non-violent offender. “Before I was incarcerated, I researched at length about prison life, its culture, and how to avoid violating prison taboos. There were absolutely no resources, especially free ones, that provided any guidance online. The 25 Rules are a basic guideline for prison survival. The 25 Rules are not guarantees, but I believe they provide a basic understanding of what to expect and how to conduct oneself in prison.”

“For example, I learned from an inmate, who had served time in a Russian prison and was now incarcerated in Maryland, that staring and joking, could be deadly for you. I watched one inmate make a joke about another inmate, but the other inmate was not laughing. The inmate who made the joke was shanked (knifed) by the other inmate later that night.”

Prisonpath.com has devoted many of its articles to the major problems facing our prisons and jails. Our site has posted articles about dangerously overcrowded prisons and jails, correctional violence, abusive facilities, the abuse of solitary confinement, and other social issues confronting prisons and jails throughout the United States.

“The information and the articles provided by this user-friendly site would have given my family some peace of mind during a very hard time in their lives,” says Bradley Schwartz, founder of Prisonpath.
