My son is a new inmate. He says he needs $100 monthly for odds and ends, coffee, etc. I think even $50 is too much. Is this realistic? It seems alot when he gets room and board free. Also, he says he needs sneakers and a heavy sweat shirt for the winter months. Is this true? Appreciate a reply.
Hi Harry, The $100 is realistic. The commissary store is essential to help with an inmate’s diet. Go to our home page and you will read an article regarding the importance of the commissary to inmates. Depending on the prison, your son will not receive sneakers or a heavy sweatshirt from the prison. Usually, the prisons allow an inmate twice a year to purchase any essential clothes. The inmate you wish to visit must send you an application. An application must be completed by all visitors 12 years of age or older. The application form consists of two parts: Form numbers DC6-111A and DC6-111B. You complete and submit the DC6-111A. The DC6-111B is a visitor information summary which should be reviewed and retained by the visitor.
