Florida State Prison West

Florida State Prison – West Unit was established in July 1987 as a result of the merger of two satellites units (New River Annex and Butler Transient Unit) of the Reception and Medical Center.  In 1991 the mission was changed to accommodate long term inmates. Prior to March 30, 2009, this facility was named New River West Correctional Institution, part of the Florida department of corrections.
