Frank Lee Community Based Facility and Community Work Center opened in 1964 as a camp for first time offenders. The facility was named in honor of A. Frank Lee, a former Department commissioner. Architecturally, Frank Lee resembles a school rather than a prison. The J.F. Ingram Trade School, adjacent to the facility, provides classes for upholstery, welding, cabinetry, auto mechanics, barbering, furniture restoration, and a General Education Diploma. Frank Lee also offers work release/community service opportunities that allow inmates to secure employment with businesses located in surrounding communities and allows inmates to perform roadside/grass cutting duties for surrounding cities and county municipalities.
