Detention Facility Profile By the numbers: Two hundred employees manage an average daily inmate population of approximately 500 inmates. One of the most technically advanced “Direct Supervision” jails in the country. Staff primarily run direct supervision jails and actively managing inmate behavior to ensure a safe and secure facility for inmates, staff, and visitors. Staff focus on teaching inmates self-sufficiency and real-life skills to reduce the rate of recidivism. A model facility. Regularly visited by corrections officials from around the world, the facility is the first urban high-rise jail run under direct supervision within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Non-jail like appearances of facility camouflages an extensive high-tech security system. The Sheriff’s Office factored the safety and security of the staff, public and inmates into the design and construction of the facility.
