Anyone arrested in St. Joseph County by the eleven police departments within the county are brought to our facility where they are either able to bond out or await charges and prosecution. Occasionally, an inmate will be sentenced to complete their time at the St. Joseph County Jail instead of going to the Indiana Department of Corrections. This is up to the judge’s discretion and is also determined by available beds. The 102 Corrections Officers who work at the jail strive to run a facility in which the inmates, visitors and staff are safe and treated fairly. Our officers are also trained and instructed to act professionally towards all inmates, visitors and members of the community. All Corrections Officers maintain a rigorous training schedule, according to the Indiana state standards.
