The Detention staff does not keep change to break bonds or the Sheriff’s fee. If you choose to post a cash bond for an inmate, this does not resolve the charges or fines against them. The cash bond is merely collateral (or a guarantee) that the inmate will appear in court on the date and time given to him/her by the releasing officer. In the event the inmate fails to appear in court as ordered, your cash bond will be forfeited and an arrest warrant will be issued for the inmate. Once the case is resolved in court, the cash bond that you posted may be taken and applied as payment for all costs incurred and fines imposed. Idaho Code Sec. 19-2923 authorizes the court to take the cash bond posted by either the inmate or someone on their behalf, and apply that money towards fines and costs incurred as a result of the criminal case filed against the inmate.
