The South Mississippi Correctional Institution (SMCI), established in 1989, is the newest state prison in Mississippi. It is the first prison in the state to receive accreditation from the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. SMCI sits on 360 acres at Leakesville in Greene County. It has 16 housing units and a maximum 3,082 beds. Men classified as minimum, medium, and close custody are housed there as well as those in protective custody and long-term segregation.

WHY IS THE BRAVO UNIT OF SOUTH MISSISSIPPI CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION STILL ON LOCKDOWN AND THE OTHER UNITS ARE NOT?
Hi Vanne,
We could not reach the facility. It is not unusual for any prison to just lock down one unit, if the prison administration has concluded, it is the only unit having issues.
