Idaho Correctional Institution in Orofino was originally an old state school and mental health facility that was modified into a prison. A new wing was added in 1988. ICIO is designed to house up to 580 male inmates. The facility primarily houses medium custody inmates, but also houses offenders needing protective custody. Givens Hall, a unit adjacent to the compound, serves as a work camp. ICIO offers vocational work programs, education, and other programming opportunities.
